Sherap Therchin

Sherap Therchin is a multidisciplinary consultant with experience in human rights advocacy, policy analysis, international relations, and cross-cultural diplomacy. As the Executive Director of the Canada Tibet Committee, he has enhanced understanding of human rights issues in Tibet among Canadian officials and parliamentarians, securing unanimous support for motions on Sino-Tibetan dialogue and self-determination rights. Sherap has organized over 30 events, including academic seminars, think tank discussions, and parliamentary meetings, to foster international advocacy and community mobilization.

 

Sherap is a founding member of the Alliance of Genocide Victim Communities (AGVC) and an active member of the Canadian Coalition for Human Rights in China (CCHRC), contributing to cross-community initiatives for genocide prevention and advocacy against human rights abuses. With a strong commitment to education, Sherap has designed and implemented entrepreneurship and education programs benefiting over 65 schools in India and Nepal, promoting creativity and leadership among Tibetan youth. Moreover, he has co-authored reports and policy papers on human rights, national security, and trade, influencing policy insights in academic and governmental forums.

 

As an advisor to RAN Canada, Sherap hopes to reshape the narrative around refugees, challenging the misconception that they are a drain on resources. He aims to highlight the invaluable contributions refugees make in building a more prosperous, diverse, and democratic society.
